On the Go

Big things are happening in Cootamundra as the Australian Meat Group (AMG) develops state-of-the-art infrastructure to produce high quality beef and lamb products for local and international markets. Read how Hoctor’s plate freezer technology will support AMG to realise its vision.

AMG founders, Joe Catalfamo and Gilbert Cabral are leveraging their decades of meat industry experience to realise the full potential of the Cootamundra site.

The duo was aware that Hoctor had site experience as contractors for the previous owners. We’d also worked with Joe and Gilbert at a Dandenong facility when they were part of the Tasman Group.

This time around we’re adding 6144 cartons to the existing four x 560 plate freezer. The project is a significant investment, which will raise total output capacity to 8384 cartons per day.

The Hoctor team will be assembling and installing the plate freezer with imported parts plus components we manufacture right here in Melbourne.

The project delivers a fully automatic load/unload system in a dehumidified room. There will also be improvements to reduce deflections on the plates, which strengthens the system for longer term stability.

The new freezers will be operational in late 2022. Hoctor is looking forward to supporting AMG to boost its capacity and market potential.

Get it Low

Low carbon emissions and highly efficient companies – that’s how we deliver solutions for the plant and planet. Read about our work at Lenne Orchards.

Hoctor’s team can audit your operations and advise you how to reduce energy costs and consumption. That’s something we’ve done over at Lenne Orchards in Ardmona, where we installed ICFD Defrost Modules as part of a 12 room cold storage expansion.

This defrost valve method is designed for carbon dioxide and ammonia systems, and it reduces blow-by gas by up to 90%, significantly reducing system load. We’ve measured the evaporator run time at Lenne’s, and the installation has decreased this by 70%.

You can shorten defrost duration and improve the refrigeration system efficiency of your plant operations. Call us for a free site consultation. We’ll assess and advise you on the options for your facility.

FoodTech Qld 2022

We are excited to be exhibiting at FoodTech Qld from July 7-8 2022 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre.  This will be an event to share opportunities, push boundaries and feed innovation. We will be showcasing some innovative new designs you wont want to miss.

Registrations to attend open in April 2022. Be sure to come and say hi!

And, we’re live! The new website showcases our full range of industrial solutions – from design and construction, to service and maintenance, equipment sales and hire, audit and engineering support, and custom manufacturing.

Tell and Show

Hardwicks Meatworks was the first client that our founder James Hoctor signed up for business. They’re still with us today. And so is their equipment.

Back in 2001, Hardwicks installed their first screw compressor – a Mycom 250VMD coupled with a TECO VSD.

This was an early introduction of variable speed technology for the Meatworks. It was also the first compressor package that Hoctor Refrigeration ever built. That compressor is still operational and it has now run the Kyneton plant for two decades. Built to last.

In the Know

Connecting with peers keeps us engaged with developments in the refrigeration industry. Back in May our Director, James Hoctor and our Senior Engineer, Eujin Tan attended the 2021 Refrigeration Conference at the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air conditioning and Heating (AIRAH).

It was a great chance to hear about emerging opportunities and issues from the field, especially from the contractors’ perspective. Conference topics on our radar included natural refrigerants and energy efficiency, which are key facets of our project work and expertise.

Keep an eye on AIRAH event listings to keep your business in the know.
